Zip Line Tour Travel Tips
Most Zip Line Tours are for the whole family, but be sure to call ahead to see if the tour you are going on has any of the following restrictions or requirements such as:
- Minimum age requirement – You will have to sign a waiver form and in most cases you must be at least 18 to do so.
- Minimum and maximum weight limits. If you are little on the big side and are concerned about fitting into a harness properly, check in advance with any waist size requirements and ask if they offer a chest harness or full body harness.
- Physical condition – A basic zip line tour actually requires very little physical exertion however some tours are mixed with other activities such as climbing, hiking, kayaking, and swimming, so be sure you know what will be expected of you as you choose a tour.
- Hand Braking or Glove Braking – This is a method of stopping and or slowing yourself down while zipping along the cable. Hand breaking is not used as a method of stopping in the US but is widely utilized in other countries. Hand breaking requires that you make good choices and puts the method of stopping in your hands literally. This method of stopping leaves you responsible for your own safety.
- Long hair should be back in a pony tail and any dangle jewelry should be removed
- Be sure to eat about two hours before the tour so as to not get hungry along the way. Most tours will take 2-4 hours. Check to see if the tour you chose provides water or snacks.
- Remove all sharp objects from your pockets. (Keys, pens, and pocket knifes)
Also do not wear a belt with a big belt buckle it could bother you while zipping. - If you wear glasses you may want a strap to keep them from zipping away.
- Cameras – A protective case is the way to go. A strap alone creating a dangling camera is a bad idea.
- Clothing – Outdoor hiking style clothes are what you are looking for. A lightweight rain coat is often a good call.
- Shorts vs. Pants – I recommend pants. Shorts are fine but be sure not to wear short shorts. You will be wearing a harness and you do not want it rubbing on your thighs while having your body weight on it.
- Shoes – Sneakers, Hiking boats, shoes are all OK / Anything with open toes is not allowed
- Back packs in most cases will not be allowed on the tour.
